We are STATE, and we've been helping technology companies turn complex products, data, and workflows into clear, engaging visual stories through design, animation, live action, and motion systems.
Over the years, we've partnered with companies including Google, Slack, Gusto, EarnIn, Betterment, and Yahoo, creating everything from product launches and brand campaigns to scalable content systems that explain sophisticated platforms and build trust through thoughtful storytelling.
We're excited about the opportunity to partner with Checkr on the next phase of its brand evolution. Together, we'll build a scalable motion identity system rooted in the new brand refresh—one that gives teams a shared visual language while remaining flexible enough to support different products, audiences, and storytelling needs.
For EarnIn's credit card launch, we produced the live-action shoot and developed a motion system that could support product films, graphic moments, and brand storytelling. Typography, numbers, and motion become the core building blocks, giving the work a rhythm that feels analytical without losing its human side.
Not a one-and-done kinda project. With Gusto, we’ve built a modular motion ecosystem: different stories, same world. A brand voice that’s fresh, expressive, and unmistakably Gusto.
By designing a cohesive set of icons and a tightly controlled color palette, we created a brand language that could scale effortlessly across multiple projects: maintaining consistency while allowing each application to feel purposeful and distinct.
This series focused on gradients: bringing softness, movement, and cohesion to the system in a way that still felt flexible.
For Google Play Games, we built a scalable creative system that stayed consistent at its core while flexing to transform for every title it touched.
Over a year, State delivered a 14-spot commercial/social campaign along with a robust CMS system enabling Google to create 80% completed bespoke content for future games.
One structure. Many identities.
When Slack reached out to us, we shared overenthusiastic emojis and our best GIFs...in Slack. So we made Slack with Slack on Slack.
We partnered with Nickelodeon to build a visual system for the Kids’ Choice Awards fun, fast, and built for live TV chaos.
"The Toolkit" delivered modular backgrounds, icons, text, and slime, ready to mix, match, and render in record time without losing creativity.
The work went on to earn a Gold Telly Award, proving that a little slime can go a long way.
This spot for Superhuman + Grammarly moves like someone who’s already cleared their inbox—fast, intentional, no wasted motion. With AI handling the noise, we let motion do the talking: tight edits, bold type, and UI moments that move at inbox-zero speed.
The collaboration has grown into an ongoing partnership, where we've developed a scalable motion framework that continues to evolve across the brand. From explainers and product storytelling to landing pages and brand films, the system keeps everything moving with the same speed, clarity, and personality.
Our work with Google Gemini has grown into an evolving motion system that supports the brand across product launches, explainers, and AI-first storytelling. From Learning Coach to Workspace and entrepreneurial use cases, each film introduces a different capability while feeling unmistakably part of the same visual language.
The system blends UI, typography, and motion into a toolkit that keeps pace with one of Google's fastest-evolving products.
This was a 2+ year engagement with over 100+ pieces of content delivered
After working with Betterment for several years and across multiple campaigns, we’ve developed a mixed-media approach that blends live action, stock footage, illustration, and animation into a flexible visual language. Each story lives in its own world while still feeling unmistakably Betterment.
The system continues to evolve across product launches, seasonal campaigns, and brand storytelling, from tax season and cash reserve to everyday investing, long-term savings, and financial planning. Each piece tackles a different topic while staying rooted in the same visual language.
Seeing our illustrations take over Betterment's headquarters in New York was a pretty rewarding reminder that the system had grown beyond campaigns. It had become part of the brand's everyday environment.
We busted out all our top-tier hand gestures (think: finger guns and dramatic pointing) for the Google Pixel 9 After Party. Oh, and yeah, we threw in a phone—because apparently, that’s important. Big love to the creative geniuses at Ogilvy NY for making sure we didn’t just stop at jazz hands!
